“The Gods of New York” is my third book. My first, “Ladies and Gentlemen, the Bronx Is Burning” was about the year 1977 in New York City. It was later adapted as a scripted mini-series on ESPN starring John Turturro and Oliver Platt.
My second book, “The Challenge,” told the story of two lawyers – a Navy JAG officer and a Constitutional Law professor at Georgetown – who defended Osama bin Laden’s driver on Guantanamo Bay and took his case to the Supreme Court. (It was optioned by George Clooney but never made.)
I am also a longtime staff writer at the New York Times Magazine, where I write about a wide range of subjects: Politics, media, sports, education and more. I have won a variety of awards for my journalism, including a Loeb, and have also had stories included in the Best American Sports Writing anthology.
